• There’s a beautiful boy that swims in the lake at 清’s family villa.
• 清 only spends one holiday there as a child, when he has to be dragged away from the water the entire time.
• 清 asks the boy his name, but his name can only be spoken underwater.
• 清 names him Shizuma, since that’s the name his parents had chosen for if he ever had a brother.
  • 静 will whisper 清 his true name before he eats him.
  • 清 wanted to hear his name so bad, it tempted him to the water more than any of his songs.
    • 清 would hold his head underwater, trying to imagine what 静’s true name sounds like (and almost drowning multiple times.)
  • Even though 静 has a name, there’s no other sirens in the lake to use it. 清 feels it’s too sad to never have anyone say your name, so he desperately wants to.
• 静’s only young himself. He has sharp teeth and he could tear through him, but he’s still young and immature so doesn’t have the full siren beauty.
• 静 always hides when 清’s parents are around, and his singing is still pretty quiet, so they never hear him.
  • 清 listens for him, so he hears it.
  • His parents assumed he was making it up or some kid local kid had been there and run off.
• 静 got injured and washed up, so 清 snuck him into the villa and kept him in the bath.
• He fed him sashimi and would create personalities for them so 静 could imagine they were living prey.

  清: Here comes the tuna… the shrimp… the tamagoyaki…

  静: The what?

  清: The tamagoyaki is full of rage.

• 静 complained the whole time, but he asked a lot of questions and seemed intrigued by 清.
• 清 sitting by the bath, talking about kissing and 静 knows enough about that. That’s in his nature. He doesn’t know why 清 keeps bringing it up.
  • 清 who is trying to ask permission to do it.
  • His teeth are small enough that they could kiss without it doing too much damage - but it’ll still do some.
• 清 crying on the banks at one point and 静 getting annoyed and threatening to eat his eyes if he doesn’t stop and 清 immediately stops because he’s so excited.
  • 静 keeps swimming around the lake and 清 runs after him.

    清: Now? You’ll eat them now?

    静: If you jump in, then yeah, now.

    • 清’s parents caught him seconds before he jumped in.
    • 清 cried as he was dragged back inside (partially hoping 静 will show himself if he hears him crying.)
• 清 goes through a brief time on the holiday where he seems to just be in a highly emotional state, crying all the time.
  • His parents are worried. They don’t exactly want to assume there’s something wrong with the villa, but 清 is never usually like this.
• 静 knows he’s just doing it to get his attention and waits till it’s finally safe to approach him to tell him to knock it off.
  • He’s trying to sing but all he can hear is 清 crying!
• 清 keeps trying to offer 静 a finger or any eye, but 静 won’t settle to petty scraps. He wants to eat 清 fully.
  • 清 thinks he mustn’t be tasty enough, so promises to do everything he can to become tastier for him.
• After the holiday, the family sell the villa because 清 is so determined to die in that lake.
• 静 regrets not accepting one of his eyes. They were so beautiful and he wishes he still had something of him. He wants it more than anything.
• 清 takes singing lessons for a bit but he never really improves.
• There’s a lot of singers that approach 清, hoping he’ll be a handsome benefactor, but he only ever compares their singing to 静 and no one can live up to that.
• Once 清 is grown up, he buys it back. It’s lost a lot of value due to how many people have died there.
• 静 never eats them fully. Partially eaten corpses will wash up.
• Getting the tour of the house before he buys and asking about the previous owners and any mysterious singing.

  清: Are there any rumours of anything out of the ordinary?

  Estate Agent, Desperate to Sell: Oh no, nothing, of course! It’s a good house, sir.

  清, visibly less interested: Oh.

• 清 genuinely worried that some of the previous owners might have hurt 静 or drove him out.
  • 静 just avoids the estate agents.
  • 清 making excuses to go out the back alone and walking the perimeter of the lake, desperately calling for him.
    • The estate agent catches him standing in the shallows and he just asks how good it is for swimming. Lakes like this must be perfect for swimming but you never know what hidden dangers there are.
    • Estate agent rapidly trying to change the subject.
    • Something scratches his ankle as he gets out and he knows it was probably just a plant but.
• He pays upfront and confirms it’s okay for him to move in Now as he pushes the estate agent out.
• 静 is getting annoyed because this viewer is taking so long to leave he can’t relax.
• Happens to swim a little closer to the pier and hears someone calling “Shizuma” over and over.
  • And singing in a voice that really does hurt a siren’s ears.
    • Pops out the water to tell him to knock it off.
• 清 seeing him and being on the verge of tears, wanting to hug him.
  • He was genuinely worried someone had killed him.
  • 静 still hates the crying too KNOCK IT OFF.
• 静 has grown into his full siren beauty, but his teeth and nails can rip through anything with ease and 清 catches himself staring at them.
• 清 is completely lost staring at him.
  • Also annoying for 静! Especially when he’s out of damn reach!!
• 静 wouldn’t say 清 got hotter but damn he wants to eat him even worse than before and he’s already spent all these years longing to eat him so much.
  • Even he’s not sure if he’s hallucinating from longing (for a meal.)
• 清 reaches his hand out to him and 静 bites it.

  清: When I offered you a finger before you didn’t want it.

  • 静 finds him so annoying but he tastes even better than he imagined it has to be real.
  • 静 can’t begin to express how happy he is 清 came back to be eaten by him.
• He actually thinks for a while that maybe 清 is finally ready to go all the way (into the lake) but then no.

静: The water’s so nice this time of year.

清: Oh, I can’t swim.

• 清 somewhat learned before he met 静, but he hasn’t swam since.
  • Desperately wanted to be unable to save himself whenever 静 decided to eat him.
  • He’s desperately hoping he’s forgot enough.
• He doesn’t want to go in the water unless he’s sure 静 is ready to eat him.
  • If he just plain drowned, 静 might not find his corpse in time and he’ll be bloated and waterlogged and ugly and what if 静 doesn’t eat him!

    清: Would you eat me if I were ugly?

    静, internally: If?

    静: Yes, I’ll eat you.

• 清 will spend hours sitting on the dock talking to 静.
  • 静 will try to tell him it’s hard for him to speak like this.
    • 清 doesn’t fall for it. He’s done this so many times. He can even keep 静 in his bath and they can still talk. So it’s fine.
• 清 returning with his family, only for 静 to tempt his son into the lake.
• He was as fascinated by 静 as 清 was as a child.
  • 静 hesitates for a second, seeing the resemblance between them.
    • But then he became more determined to kill him.
      • If he’d killed 清 back then, he’d have never left him.
• His son’s corpse washes up, partially eaten and eyeless.
• He had eyes just like 清’s. 静 had to have them.
  • They tasted far better than the rest. After he’d ate his eyes, he couldn’t stand the taste of the rest of him. 静 could only imagine that’s what 清 would taste like.
• 清 running into the shallows, trying to find 静 while his wife holds their son’s body.
• She has her moment, thinking he’s going to finally kill 静 or beg to die with his son.
  • Then the realisation starts to sink in as he’s just standing there.
  • She has her moment thinking she should just kill him so he can be with his damn monster.
    • She can’t get the strength together, otherwise she might have.
• 静 doesn’t respond. He can smell 清’s blood in the water, but he doesn’t consider this him being lured.
  • As far as he’s concerned, the corpse shows his son wasn’t a suitable substitute for 清. If 清 doesn’t give himself up fully immediately, 静 won’t take him.
    • He’s hurt knowing he’ll only stand in the shallows.
    • 静 watching him and doubting the strength of 清’s feelings.
    • 清’s wife watching, knowing 清 loves that monster more than he loves her or their son.
  • Does 清 think he’ll be satisfied with crumbs? Isn’t it nature to want a full meal?
• 清 sitting on the dock that night, trying to ask 静 why he took his son.
• 静 tugging on his ankles, telling him if he gets in, he’ll tell him.
• 清’s wife crying and she can faintly hear 静 singing and 清 is still listening.
  • He promised he was just asking why 静 did it, but he’s been out there for hours.
  • Why did 清 insist on staying here?
  • Why did he endanger their son?
  • He says he just wanted to share somewhere special with them, but wasn’t he just wanting to feed them to that monster?
• 清 comes in, his legs covered in fresh bites, as they have been for every day of this “holiday”.
  • She can’t help but notice it still let him go.

清’s wife: Do you really think that thing loves you? It’s just using you for a meal. It only lets you live because it knows you’ll feed it more.

• 清 doesn’t mind. He can’t live without 静.
  • He’ll give up anything for that.
• The grief starts to set in and he partially cries for his son, but mostly because he can hear 静 out there, and he sounds so lonely.
• He keeps going back to the bank and his wife tries to believe he’s come round and is going to seek revenge but she knows he isn’t. He’s just pacing the lake, calling for 静 when 静 won’t appear.
• 清 sits with his legs hanging off the dock, always expecting 静 to pull him in.
  • But he never does.
• Part of him thought 静 would finally kill him and at least his family would be there and know what happened to him. They wouldn’t be left wondering.
• He never thought 静 would kill their son.
• His wife divorces him and has no interest in seeing him and will never go near that lake again.
• He doesn’t see 静 again until after the divorce and funeral.
• 清 asks 静 why he keeps him alive. Does he really think 清 can lure people to him.
• 清 is the only person 静 is interested in luring.
  • But 清 only ever waits to be pulled.
  • 静 will live longer than 清. He can wait 清’s whole life. He’ll do it, if it means he gets 清.
  • He’ll keep singing and, when 清 is ready, he’ll give his life to him.
  • There’s no way 清 would want to die any other way. He’s known that since they were kids.
    • If no one had stopped him, he’d have surely given himself up when they were kids. But now he’s grown up and become like this.
• Both of them trapped in the stalemate of “I need you to make the move and unambiguously choose me over everything else.”
  • 清 will happily be dragged in or have 静 tell him he wants to live with him on land.
• 清 leaning over the dock to kiss 静.
• 清 falling off the dock by accident and 静 grabbing him in the water and kissing him, before dragging him to the shore.
• 清 trying to say he wants to stay with 静.
  • If he wants to stay so bad, jump back in. (静 won’t say it.)
• 静 let him live, so he has to live now, right? At least until 静 is ready.
• Being saved by him has also made him double down that he wants 静 to make the decision.
• 清 starts to think maybe 静 would like to live on land with him.
• 清 brings 静 back to the bath for a few days, holding 静’s hand while he sings for him.
  • If 静 drowns him in the bath, then 静 will also be trapped there and surely die. They’ll go together, even if it’s with a small delay.
    • Maybe that’s what 静 wants?
      • 静 has no interest in dying in a bathtub. He wants to drag 清 to the deepest part of the lake.
      • 清 returns him to the lake after a few days, treating it as only a taster section of what he could be offered. He still needs to have 静 tell him that’s what he wants.
• 清 brings people to feed to 静, though he’s sad that 静 always picks them over him. Even though they all eventually wash up as partially eaten corpses.
• 清 stroking 静’s face and his fingers trailing into his mouth and cutting himself on his teeth.

清: They’ll probably never sell this place after I die. They’ll probably knock it down. I doubt anyone will visit here anymore.

• He’s only thinking out loud his fears of 静 starving without him there.
• 静 has been hungry for so long. He’ll be satisfied for a long time once he eats 清.
• 清 asks 静 if sirens can fall in love.
  • He spent years studying sirens.
  • Everything told him they’d lie. They’d say they could love to tempt people in.
  • No one actually knows if they can.
  • He doesn’t understand why loving someone and killing them have to be mutually exclusive.
    • He’d gladly keep 静 as a beautiful trophy, even if it meant killing him. If 静 had suffocated in that bath, he’d have had him taxidermied.
  • He’s even thought about eating him. He’s not interested in the immortality gained from eating mermaids or sirens, he just knows he’d be incredible.
    • He loves sushi. 静 would be amazing sushi.
    • If 静 could live through it, he’d want to try at least once.
    • His nature as a bottom prevents him ever actioning it ultimately.
• 静 doesn’t know the answer.
  • He wants to eat 清 so bad, but he can’t deny he treats him different.
  • He’d miss him.
  • If he could keep him alive below the surface, slowly eating at him forever, he would.
    • He probably doesn’t have enough self-control for that.
    • He’ll settle for eating every part of him. He’ll suck the marrow out his bones and keep the hollow scraps as his memento.
      • 清 also wants 静 to consume all of him and leave no scraps. He wants to be better than all those other corpses.
• 清 kissing 静 and 静 gently asking him to jump in.
  • 清 doesn’t do it. 静 has asked plenty of people to jump in with his songs. If that was enough, he’d have done it long ago.
    • 静 isn’t singing this time. He’s just asking.
  • He wants 静 to need him so bad he can’t wait anymore. He need sot be special.
• They’ve both been playing technicalities on why it doesn’t count to draw this whole thing out.
• Every time they kiss, 静’s teeth are tearing 清’s mouth apart and his face is covered in scars.
  • He’s had extremely horny thoughts about what those teeth could do to him.
• 静 crawling onto the bank and 清 running his hands over his scales.
• Every time 清 has to leave him, 静 regrets still not having taken at least one of his eyes.
• 清 always asking 静 how he tastes.
  • He changed his diet, does he taste better now?
  • Does human taste best when it’s still young or does age improve it? Should 静 eat him now or will it be better when he’s an old man?
    • 静 wouldn’t know! He hasn’t been letting anyone else live this long!
      • Maybe 清 has been fucking around with his side relationships, but 静 only had anyone else for a single meal.
  • How’s he meant to become tastier for 静 if 静 won’t give him feedback?
    • 清 might be tastier if he stopped bringing other people (because of the starvation.)
• 清 will fall asleep in the boat as it drifts on the lake.
  • He doesn’t want 静 to be lonely.
  • 静 is so tempted to capsize it every time.
    • He wouldn’t eat him (it wouldn’t count, of course) but just to give him a rude awakening.
  • 静 clawing at the sides of it as a threat, but 清 just holds his hand, continuing to sleep happily.
• Everyone talking about sirens emphasises the importance of not anthropromorphising them. Even if they partially look human. Even if they’re intelligent. They’re animals and prey on humans.
  • 清 can’t help thinking 静 must be so lonely without him. It’s nice to sleep in the boat so 静 doesn’t have to be lonely at night.
    • He must have been lonely without him. He avoided the estate agent. He must have avoided people for years except when he wanted to eat them.
    • He’s probably not had anyone who loved him since 清.
    • He regrets ever leaving him, though it was beyond his control. He’ll stay with him forever now.
      • When 静 kills him, that will be his choice. That will be him confirming he doesn’t need 清 anymore. 清 will have fulfilled his purpose and welcome it gladly.
      • 静 won’t drag him in. He needs him to prove his devotion and choose to be eaten by him. If 清 isn’t completely devoted to him when he eats him, then he’s sure he’ll only be left hungrier than ever.
      • 清 talks so much and promises him things endlessly, but he’s still not getting in the water.
      • 静 has heard how he talks to their victims. He’s truly gifted with sweet talk and can say loving words to anyone.
        • How could 静 ever trust him unless 清 truly proves it?
• 静 has ate so many people he didn’t care about, but it would be embarrassing to go through all this and realise 清 never truly loved him.
• 清 trying to eat gluten in the off chance it might help his flavour.
  • He doesn’t get far and ends up in the hospital.
    • 静 spends the whole time leaning on the dock, wondering if 清 died and it really was all empty words.
  • 清 stubbornly surviving because he can NOT be an ugly corpse for 静.
